Certificate III in Sport and Recreation

Students will develop knowledge of the sporting industry and relevant workplace skills. They will learn about the preparation and equipment required for sporting and recreation sessions, how to conduct these sessions, first aid and how to deal with clients.

There will be a wide variety of sports covered that will be tailored to student interests. The second year of the course has a focus on fitness training and instruction. Students will also develop a knowledge of sport and recreation markets and participation patterns, and go on to develop public education courses in a related area.

Box Hill Institute students must be in Year 11 or 12.

Program Content

Sample competencies covered in Units 1 & 2 include:

  • Maintain sport, fitness and recreation industry knowledge

Sample competencies covered in Units 3 & 4 include:

  • Conduct basic warm-up and cool down programs

Work placement

80 hours of work placement (over two years) is strongly recommended.

Contribution to VCE/VCAL/Vocational Major

VCE/VCAL/VM: Students may be eligible to receive recognition of up to three units of credit at the Units 1 & 2 level and a VCE VET Units 3 & 4 sequence.

ATAR:  Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution for the Units 3 & 4 sequence must undertake scored assessment for the purposes of gaining a study score. This study score can contribute directly to the primary four or as a fifth or sixth study. VCAL and the VCE Vocational Major do not contribute towards an ATAR.
