Certificate II in Automotive Vocational Preparation (General)
This certificate provides students with vocational skills, knowledge and preparation for an apprenticeship in the automotive trade. Depending on the electives chosen, the program includes industry research, using and maintaining measuring equipment, operating electrical testing equipment, electronics, vehicle body, plus vehicle engine reconditioning and maintenance.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS/INFORMATION:
Kangan Institute students are required to wear long-sleeved overalls, leather upper boots and safety glasses.
Box Hill Institute students are required to wear a long sleeve cotton drill shirt and long-legged cotton drill pants or long sleeve work overalls, steel cap boots and safety glasses.
NCAT Limited Places. Acceptance is subject to NCAT having received 2023 Enrolment Form, Student Support Form (if required) and valid USI no later than last Friday Term 3, 2022. No restrictions for Year 2 students who did their first year with NCAT.
Program Content
Sample competencies covered in Units 1 & 2 include:
- Carry out basic vehicle servicing operations
- Remove and replace wheel and tyre assemblies
- Identify automotive mechanical systems and components
Sample competencies covered in Units 3 & 4 include:
- Resolve routine problems in an automotive workplace
- Operate electrical test equipment
- Dismantle and assemble multi-cylinder four-stroke petrol engines

Work placement
80 hours of work placement (over two years) is strongly recommended.
Contribution to VCE/VCAL/Vocational Major
VCE/VCAL/VM: Students may be eligible to receive recognition of up to four units of credit: two units at the Units 1 & 2 level, and a VCE VET Units 3 & 4 level.
ATAR: This subject does not have a study score and therefore cannot contribute towards the student’s primary four. Students who receive a Units 3 & 4 sequence may be eligible for a 10% increment towards their ATAR (10% of the lowest result of your primary four scaled studies). Please note the student must already have English and three other fully scored VCE/VET subjects to create the primary four. VCAL and the VCE Vocational Major do not contribute towards an ATAR.
